The Women Behind Restoration

When visitors walk through the doors of the beautifully restored Cottagers' Corner, they see a building beatifically renewed. What they don't see are the countless hours, difficult decisions, site visits, meetings, and unwavering commitment that made the restoration possible.

For that, The Cottagers owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to the members of the Cottagers Home Improvement Committee (CHIC).

Over the course of several years, Pam Bundy, Diane Scotland, Leah Brown, Linda Silva Thompson, and Patricia R. Bush worked tirelessly to guide one of the most ambitious projects in the organization's history. Together, they collaborated with architects, engineers, contractors, and fellow Cottagers to ensure that every aspect of the renovation reflected both the rich history of Cottagers' Corner and the needs of future generations.
From structural repairs and modern building systems to improved accessibility, a renovated kitchen, and the careful preservation of the building's historic character, no detail was too small and no challenge too great. Throughout contractor transitions, construction delays, budget decisions, and the countless details that accompany a major restoration, the committee remained steadfast in its commitment to getting it right.

Their work was never simply about renovating a building. It was about preserving the heart of an organization. They understood that Cottagers' Corner is more than a headquarters—it is a place where friendships are formed, ideas take shape, traditions are passed from one generation to the next, and the spirit of service finds a home.

As we celebrate the reopening of Cottagers' Corner and 70 Years of Service & Giving, we proudly recognize the members of CHIC for their leadership, perseverance, and unwavering commitment to excellence. Their vision, teamwork, and dedication have ensured that Cottagers' Corner will continue to welcome, inspire, and serve the Island community for years to come.
